ST TOUR

Tallinn Walking Tours

Four tours, one meeting point. Every ST TOUR walk starts on Town Hall Square in the medieval Old Town and is run by the local guides themselves — you are booking with the operator, not with a reseller. Below, all four side by side: price, departure times, group size, language and how late you can still book.

Which one should you take?

In practice the choice comes down to two things: how much of the day you have, and whether you want the city explained or tasted.

First time in Tallinn, a few hours to spare

Take the English Old Town tour. Two to two and a half hours covers the whole medieval core and the Toompea viewpoints, and because booking closes only 15 minutes before departure you can decide on the day — even on the walk in from the port. Three departures give you room to fit it around a ship or a flight.

You are staying the night and want more than sights

The food tour at 15:00 is the one that needs planning: the tastings are arranged in advance, so booking closes 18 hours ahead. It is also the warmest option in winter, since much of it happens indoors. A same-day visitor almost always ends up on the Old Town walk instead — that is a scheduling fact, not a ranking.

Family, small group, or you want the guide to yourself

The private tour is a flat €150 for 1–4 guests and €200 for 5–15, so from roughly five people it costs about the same per head as the group tour while letting you set the pace and skip what does not interest you. Only one runs per day, at 16:00 — book it before you need it.

You would rather hear it in Russian

The Russian-language Old Town tour runs at the same three times for the same €35. The one catch is the deadline: bookings are confirmed by hand, so the tour closes 5 hours before departure rather than 15 minutes. The food and private tours are guided in English only.

One meeting point: Town Hall Square

At 10:00, 13:00 and 15:30 the tour starts from the Town Hall building. The guide waits under the clock with a bright sign carrying the 120° logo, in the Town Hall arcade on Town Hall Square (Raekoja plats). The food tour guide stands in the same spot with a Food Tour sign. There is no separate office to find and no ticket to collect — come to the square a few minutes early and look for the sign.

The square sits in the middle of the Old Town: about 1.5 km from the cruise terminal (15–20 minutes on foot) and about 4 km from Tallinn Airport (10–15 minutes by car).

Tallinn tours — frequently asked questions

How the four tours differ from one another: languages, group sizes, children, booking deadlines and combining a tour with a transfer.

Which Tallinn tours does ST TOUR run?

Four: the Old Town historical walking tour in English (€35), the same tour in Russian (€35), the Tallinn food tour (€80) and a private Old Town walking tour (from €150 for the whole group). All of them start on Town Hall Square in the Old Town and run every day of the year, including public holidays.

What is the difference between the group tour and the private tour?

The group tour is priced per person (€35 per adult) and you share the guide with other travellers — usually up to 17 people. The private tour is priced per group: €150 for 1–4 guests and €200 for 5–15 guests, with no one else joining. The private tour departs at 16:00 and only one runs per day, so it needs to be booked ahead.

Which Tallinn tours are available in Russian?

Only the group Old Town historical walking tour is guided in Russian. The food tour, the private tour and the second Old Town group are guided in English. If you need the Russian tour, book it on the Russian-language page — booking closes 5 hours before departure rather than 15 minutes.

How late can I book each Tallinn tour?

The cut-offs differ, and this is usually what decides the choice for a same-day visitor. English Old Town tour: 15 minutes before departure, so you can book it while walking into the Old Town. Private tour: 3 hours before. Russian Old Town tour: 5 hours before. Food tour: 18 hours before, which in practice means deciding the day before.

Do children pay for a Tallinn walking tour?

On both Old Town group tours, children under 12 go free — one free child per paying adult. On the food tour every guest pays €80, because the tastings are per person. On the private tour children count towards the group size, but the group price does not change.

Where do the Tallinn tours start?

Every tour starts on Town Hall Square (Raekoja plats) in the Old Town. For the 10:00, 13:00 and 15:30 group departures the guide waits under the Town Hall clock, in the Town Hall arcade, holding a bright sign with the 120° logo. The food tour guide waits in the same spot with a Food Tour sign.

Do the tours run in winter and in bad weather?

Yes. Departures run daily all year, including public holidays and the Christmas market season, and the walking tours go ahead in rain and snow — we simply keep moving and use the courtyards and arcades as shelter. Dress for the weather and wear shoes with grip: Old Town is cobbled, and packed snow on limestone is what catches visitors out.

Can I combine a tour with an airport, port or border transfer?

Yes. ST TOUR also runs private transfers in a Lexus ES or Toyota Camry for up to 3 passengers — Tallinn Airport is about 4 km from the Old Town (10–15 minutes by car) and the cruise port about 1.5 km (a 15–20 minute walk). Long-distance border transfers to Narva (€170), Koidula (€230) and Luhamaa (€250) are a fixed price per car. Tell us your tour time when you request a transfer and we will plan around it.
